About
When Johnathan started riding at three-years-old, it sparked a lifelong passion that has taken him all over the world competing and teaching.
He started competing at age six and two years later he started training with Pammy Hutton of Talland School of Equitation, who had spotted his talent from a young age. He trained at Talland and received his BHS AI certificate at age 17. He then went on to become one of the youngest British Showjumping approved (UKCC) coaches in the UK.
An In-Demand Coach
Johnathan has continued to balance his ambition as a showjumper with his passion for helping others to achieve their goals. He has trained with some of the best trainers in the country, including Tim Stockdale, Dermot Lennon, Dick Stillwell, Gerry Sinnott and Rowland Fernyhough. His calm, pragmatic approach to teaching has made him very much in demand, for Pony and Riding Club groups, all the way to international-level showjumpers. Johnathan continues to keep up to date with the latest in showjumping coaching practice through continual professional development.
Success as a Rider
As a rider, Johnathan has a long list of accomplishments on his own horses and for owners. Highlights of his career have included representing England on three occasions, jumping at Horse Of The Year Show at Wembley, Olympia and Hickstead, as well as being selected to jump abroad at venues such as Auvers and Bonheidon and winning the Young Sports Horse class at the Scope Festival Of Showjumping.
He produces young horses for breeders and can be found weekly at local shows giving youngsters experience in British Novice and above. Johnathan instills good basics on every horse he rides, including correct flatwork and good jumping technique.
Many of Johnathan's horses go on to the upper levels of showjumping sport, including Balzac, a horse Johnathan produced for Rowland Ferneyhough, that now jumps on Nations Cup teams with Anthony Condon. Johnathan has helped many riders find their perfect match through his extensive network of contacts.
The JB Academy Success Story
Johnathan started the JB Academy as a way to help riders achieve their goals and learn from each other. This collaborative, group approach to training benefits riders of all ages and abilities. The Academy meets for a monthly training session at a variety of venues around the South West and further workshop days, demos and talks are arranged throughout the year. Many members rejoin year-on-year – a true credit to Johnathan's ability to structure training and foster friendships within the group.
